Goalkeepers NI
Hi my name is Alan Simpson I am a goalkeeping coach in Northern Ireland. I would coach all the goalkeepers at my club, Linfield Football Club in Belfast. I would also coach the Northern Ireland under 23 and the women's full international goalkeepers. My aim is to try and get as much goalkeeping information out to the goalkeepers as I possibly can as I think that there's not enough being done to support the growing demand on goalkeeping coaching.

Shotstoppers

The SYFA have set up specialist goalkeeping coaching nights for their development squads at 14’s, 15’s and 16’s. Coaches from the Shot-Stoppers Goalkeeping Academy have put together a detailed and extensive programme once a month at Nethercraigs Playing Fields. In addition to working on a wide range of skills, goalkeepers from Western, Eastern, Midland and Fife/Tayside have completed self-assessments, been supplied with drills they can take back to their clubs and will undergo technical assessment records at the end of the programme.

Shot-Stoppers were launched with the backing of Adidas UK whose Soccer Unit boss Mark Leigh admitted “The quality of coaching is as good as any in the country for a grassroots development programme. There is an excellent work ethic and standard of discipline instilled which can only be beneficial to the boys’ development, regardless of whether they finally make it in the professional game.”

Glasgow based Shot-Stoppers, who won a Merit Award as part of the Evening Times Caring Cup in 1998 for their work with children, catering for goalkeepers aged 10 years to over 21. They devise programmes for professional and amateur clubs, have coached group keepers – including Eastercraigs, Gairdoch United and Drumchapel United – and advised junior clubs like Cambuslang Rangers, Larkhall Thistle, Maryhill and Rutherglen Glencairn.

More information on specialist goalkeeping methods will be posted on this site later in the year
